Get Your Sourdough in the Oven

A childhood friend of mine used to say in a saucy voice, “Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed.”

I didn’t quite realize how sexist that was until I just read the lyrics:

You uppity women I don’t understand
Why you gotta go and try to act like a man,
But before you make your weekly visit to the shrink
You’d better occupy the kitchen, liberate the sink.
Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed
That’s what I to my baby said,
Women’s liberation is a-going to your head,
Get your biscuits in the oven and your buns in the bed.
And then it gets worse.
But, my friends, I’ve got some sourdough in the oven and still today I submitted a grant proposal. Okay, it takes time and planning and great tips from the internet to make great bread for less than a dollar a loaf but a liberated woman can do it and decide on her own whether or not she wants to get her buns in your bed.
